Death Penalty Debate

01 September 2009 | By audra-kgmi in Uncategorized

I understand the use of death penalty in the United States of America.  Our criminal justice system is a well thought out legal network of checks and balances and it’s hard to dispute the accuracy of DNA evidence.

But what about executions in Iraq?  This article made me shudder.  How could anyone support the death penalty in a society eroding with injustice and violence?

  1. The death penalty has little deterrent anymore, a person can fight there penalty for years and in some states they no longer even have it. I beleve in the death penalty in some cases but not all.

Why don’t we close all the prisons in the U.S. and work with a 3rd world country, we will build prisons for them and pay to run them. This will bring jobs into there country and help there economy. I think this would be a big deterrent for all crimes and help out a struggling nation.

  2. Audra,
The death penalty is a scary thing when the system is corrupt. I believe in the death penalty, but the reason why it does not work well in America is because it takes way too long. Criminals should not sit on death row for 15-20 years. That’s crazy!! And for those who don’t believe in the death penalty because they don’t want to kill an innocent person, so… it’s ok to allow an “innocent” man to sit on death row for 15-20 years, that does not sound good to me either. If their is reasonable doubt, than I wander if the person should be in prison at all. Death penalty or not, you better be certain that person is guilty before sending them to prison or to death, but evidence better be allowed.
